Do the syrups contain alcohol?
No, none of our syrups contain alcohol. All of our syrups are non-alcoholic.
Where are the Hāmākua Coast Premium syrups made?
All of our syrups are proudly made at the certified commercial kitchen of Ugly Cookies in Hilo, Hawai`i.
Is ube the same as purple sweet potato?
Ube (pronounced ooh-bae) is not the same as purple sweet potato. Ube is a Filipino yam, commonly mixed up with the Okinawan sweet potato. Ube are grown above ground, where sweet potatoes are grown underground. The skin of the Ube is darker and often rougher than the Okinawan sweet potato. Although both have that rich purple color and sweet flavor, ube has more of a nutty flavor.
Is lilikoi the same as passion fruit?
Yes, lilikoi and passion fruit refer to the same fruit grown on a vine in Hawai`i. Passiflora edulis forma flavicarpa is the scientific name for the yellow Passion Fruit. It’s a round fruit with a waxy hard skin, protecting small black seeds in orange sacs full of tangy aromatic juice.
What can be made with Hāmākua Coast Premium syrups?
Really, anything your heart desires. We had in mind sipping a cocktail made from real ingredients when creating the syrups, but they can also be used for mocktails, barista drinks, as well as sweet or savory culinary creations. Our Ube Syrup was the crown ingredient in making a delicious poke at the first Ube Festival in Waikōloa.
